Darwin’s Dilemma

Darwin's Dilemma examines the Cambrian fossil record. These records did not follow Darwin’s pervious thoughts on evolution. This challenged his theory. And as he did not have the time to discover the real science behind evolution development, today scientists continue to search for the one answer.

So the big contradiction to Darwin’s theory that was written in his book On the Origins of Species which declared that “it is indisputable that before the lowest Cambrian stratum was deposited… the world swarmed with living creatures” (Darwin). But, then he finds that Cambrian strata showed evidence that there no creatures before them through examining the rocks. He finds that creatures in the animal kingdom appear in the lowest known fossiliferous rocks and there is no evidence of previous creatures. This movie was made to show the continued effort in searching for the answers on early life forms and to validate Darwin’s claims.

The movie proves how it is very difficult to prove that there were existing organisms or life forms before the ones found in fossiliferous rocks. There could have been environmental factos that have erased all evidence, but as a scientists who are willing to go all means to find hard evidence and open doors to answers, this will not stop but continue.

The concept of denudation and metamorphism could explain this difficulty.

Denudation: Process that causes the wearing away of earth’s surface.

Metamorphism: the process of a change in minerals in pre-existing rocks.
